BACKGROUND
Biofuels are fuels that are derived from biomass. They are used throughout the globe and can be utilized for numerous purposes, such as transportation, power generation, and heat.
What are BIOFUELS ?
Biomass is any material that is derived from recently living or living organisms. The majority of biomass is obtained from animals and plants and also their by-products. The five basic categories of biomass are:
-
Virgin wood: from forestry, arboricultural activities or from wood processing
-
Energy Crops: high yield crops grown specifically for energy applications
-
Agricultural residues: residues from agriculture harvesting or processing
-
Food Waste: from food and drink manufacture, preparation and processing, and post-consumer waste
-
Industrial waste and co-products: from manufacturing and industrial processes
What is BIOMASS ?
Bioenergy is renewable energy derived from harvesting biomass such as tress, agricultural waste, and crops. It has been used for thousands from years, ever since people began to cook food by burning wood. The benefits of bioenergy include, decreased carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere, turning the problem of waste into a source of energy, and sustainable and renewable fuels.
